Sde Boker Winery

he idea of starting the winery was the dream of one person, Zvi Remak. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he moved to Israel in 1980 after completing his B.Sc. in Agronomy from California State Polytechnic University Pomona.

After the decision was made to plant wine grapes at Sde Boker he decided that he wanted to make wine, to make a finished product and not just provide raw materials for others to use.

So after working in the orchards at Sde Boker for 13 years, (six of them as manager) he took a sabbatical with his family in 1995 from the kibbutz and returned to California. During that year he studied winemaking and grape growing at Napa Valley College and worked in various wineries in the Napa Valley.

In 1996 they returned to the kibbutz and continued working in the orchards. It was in 1999 the he started Sde Boker Winery.
